Did you know most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by the end of January?
I can’t deny the allure and possibility of a fresh, blank page on the calendar and the notion that we can make ourselves into a hyper productive, mega disciplined, imaginary version of ourselves. I also can’t deny that, for many of us, that intense motivation that we felt when we set New Year’s resolutions disappears as we get distracted by Zoom calls, dentist appointments, deadlines, grocery shopping, laundry to be done, seasonal depression, and just, life. It’s precisely why the wellness/fitness propaganda that equates self-discipline and constant high level motivation with moral superiority is a scam… but I digress, that’s a whole separate article.
